Movement
This project was prompted through the idea of movement with specifications of using cut & sew knits with a designer emphasis on the waist. The video below shows the project sketchbook starting with a mood board and progressing through my creative process. This broad idea of movement manifested itself in the movement of water and more specifically the movement and composition of the body of a fish. The preliminary design sketches were inspired by the shape of the fish, the movement of the current, the flow of the fins and the conceptual idea of movement through the space of water shown through the chiffon knit material chosen. This design became an expression of performative movement, whilst using the delicate material, the design boasted an ere of athletic performance similar to dance or figure skating. The embellishment on the piece was directly inspired by that of performance dance wear. The removable waist piece of this ensemble is a three layer quilted piece with added embellishment to further enhance the concept of movement. This unique addition alters the perception of the design into a more amorphous and distinguished piece. The ensemble can be worn both with and without the added waist piece. Below are pictures from the creative process and the final collection extension sketches.
